American Youth Soccer Organization Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.

AYSO Region 143

EXTRA BASICS

The EXTRA Program offers a more advanced level of competition for players who possess the appropriate skills, commitment and abilities. The program offers soccer development opportunities similar to club soccer but maintains the core AYSO philosophies – including a guarantee that they will play at least half of every game. Players are selected through a competitive tryout process.

TRYOUTS

  • All players must register for the tryout in advance
  • The tryout is open to ALL players based on the birth year of each division.
  • ALL players (previous EXTRA players included) MUST attend at least one tryout to be considered for a team; attendance at both tryouts is encouraged.
  • There is no fee to try out and you do not need to be registered for fall to tryout.
NOTE: If players are going to participate in the CORE program should they not make an EXTRA team, they will need to register for the CORE program before the early bird deadline in order to receive discounted pricing. If they are selected for an EXTRA team, their registration will be adjusted and payment for the difference between what has been paid and the EXTRA registration fee will be due within 72 hours.
  • Please read the "TRYOUT CHECKLIST" on this page for important details and how to register for the tryout

COSTS

  • EXTRA program registration is a flat fee (there is no discounted, or early bird, pricing), which includes custom home/away jerseys, a practice jersey, special training opportunities, and the EXTRA Program participation fee.
  • ALL players participating in any AYSO program must also pay the AYSO Annual Membership Fee ($20), which covers insurance and other resources provided by the national AYSO office. It goes directly to AYSO and is non-refundable, even in the event of a player dropping due to injury. This membership fee applies for ANY/ALL AYSO programs during the membership year, which runs 8/1 - 7/31.
  • Teams sometimes elect to buy balls, bags or warm up suits or other items at the players’ expense. There may also be fees for any optional tournaments in which the team participates.
  • Many teams also choose to participate in local tournaments before and after the season. All fees associated with these optional tournaments are paid for by the team.

SCHEDULE
  • EXTRA teams will not play other Region 143 teams during the Fall season or participate in All Stars.
  • There will be some travel involved, but the games are generally in Orange County and Long Beach.
  • Games are usually on weekends and there may be games on Sundays.
  • The EXTRA season generally begins at the same time as the Region’s Core Fall season and usually ends a week after the end of the regular season.
  • Teams will only be eligible for official post-season play if they meet the minimum number of volunteer/referee points during the regular season.
